Bakla Goes to the Blogger Foodfest

At the last minute, people I invited to go with me (get well soon Mr. McVie; Ish, you owe me one!) to the Taste Asia Blogger FoodFest at SM Mall of Asia (or Samoa, as I’d like to call it). So off I headed to Samoa, still drowsy as I had to wake up way ajtie1.jpgearlier than my body clock is used to. I figured that since I did not have enough time after the event to go home and change, I just donned my office wear (and secretly hoping that Mr. Right would meet me at the sidelines) and my manpurse and left my pad, Terenti, without my breakfast coffee. I planned on getting a double-shot Caramel Latte from Starbucks at Samoa, so I could get my groove on and not become too shy (charot! shy daw?). But things didn’t go as planned since Taste Asia is right at the back of SM Hypermarket and the Starbucks is right near the globe. Soome people had difficulty finding Taste Asia but I ajeyebags.jpgguess I was lucky enough to have asked security personnel who knew where it was. Rocky of the Geeky Guide, whom I invited on short notice, arrived shortly after I did. Since I wasn’t in my ulirat yet and I haven’t had my morning coffee, I was a bit tame today. That, and I was carrying two heavy loads of eyebags which I’d like to believe are from LV.

ajsolo2.jpgajshocked.jpgHad I had my morning coffee, I would have said hi to practically everyone there. Yes, my dearies, most people’s night is my morning and most people’s morning is my night. I’m a callboy you know – Call center Boy. Oh and I saw beer… I should have taken this night off from work and called in sick or just took a vacation leave but hello naman, I have to call my fabulous American boss in the US to do that! I wanted to drink but I couldn’t because I can’t risk going to work under the influence, noh.

I had a lot of fun even though I only got to meet a few (few lang kase I was too shy, and I was still in the not-in-my-ulirat mode.) bloggers and barely ate one plateful (my stomach responds to a 12 midnight real-food breakfast, not an hour earlier). There were about 4 and a half cute guys, all straight (or they appeared to be) and Mr. Right was not there.

The representation of the gay blogging community was limited to only a few of us. What could be the reason behind this? I only met about 4 or 5 other gay bloggers at the event. Either I was too un-social or there was a live telecast of a beauty pageant on national TV. Kidding!

As the night progressed and after about 3 cans of Coke, I had enough caffeine in me to actually go in front and promote my blog. Kapal ng fez ko no? I actually grabbed the mic and started rambling about my blog. All I can remember now is repeating bakla ako over and over, like, “bakla ako, bakla ako dot com.”

Food was great, people (at least the ones I met) were fun and cool. And it was great to have finally met the fabulous fab hag Aileen. Another great thing about the event is… the Clique Photo Booth! Whoopteedoodee!!! Oh did I mention the Swag (Stuff We All Get, aka freebies)? I now have lots of new socks, a cool Coke glass, and a mini-flashlight! Yipee!

I should attend more events like this in the future – not for the swags, but for the networking value! Uhm, honestly, it’s all about the photo booth, having photos taken, and more photos! Weno if I like having photos diba? Bakla Ako, May Reklamo?
