MakiBAKLA, Huwag Matakot – The TasteAsia Event 2
In a lame attempt at forcing the event venue’s place into the title, we originally posted a different title (Bakla Tastes More Bloggers) but that didn’t sound right, so we took it out. We don’t wanna add more controversy to the already very controversial local blogging community.
Bakla’s pink and blue self-painted shoes brought him to the SM Mall of Asia’s Taste Asia where SM Hypermarket recently announced the winners of their blog writing contest. The event, dubbed as the Biggest Bloggers’ Party in the Philippines as of yet, sure did come with a lot of surprises. As we previously reported live in this blog, there were tons of food, booze, bloggers, and prizes and surprises.
We here at Bakla Ako dot Com would like to congratulate the winners of the writing
contest as well as the winners of the raffle prizes (uhm, we think everyone with a card or name-paper, brought home a prize)! Kudos goes to SM Hypermarket and Google Philippines Country Consultant Aileen Apolo for yet another successful event! We’re looking forward to the next Taste Asia event (and hopefully with the chocolate fondue fountain back)!
Bakla, in his backless shirt (yes, backless yun!) met a lot more bloggers (thanks to the game sheet!) during and after the party. As always, the shy alter ego of Bakla overpowered initially. Had fun hanging out and talking about whatnots and pick-up lines with the uber-cool Lauren (who was clad in a red WordPress shirt that most everyone envied), and Rocky. (We were quite sociable, we three, weren’t we?).
See how sociable we were:
We lurve cliquebooth!
Then the after-raffle chikahan withjust about anyone who has a blog (feeling ko pati waiters ng TasteAsia may mga blogs na rin). We had some interesting conversations and some short and curt hi’s and hello’s with our favorite kachikahans like (Namedrop and Linkbait galore) Jayvee (gusto mo sampalin ko for you?), Juned (feeling ko nga rin si ano…) , Sasha (dapat nag skirt din ako!), Aileen (tama ka nga, everytime may event, lovelife ang chikahan natin), Lauren (sayang your beer! Inubos ko nga…), Rico (right on about P. Diddy’s Last Night), Rocky (I like our pens! haha), Arbet (Salamat sa LinkLove), SexyMom Dine and AlanJr., AngelicMom Noemi, Misteryosang Shari (hindi ako maka get-over dun sa twit mo!) Dhon Jason (thanks for the photo, and I think your camera hated me that night!), Enrico of Byahilo, Jheng Manalo, Aloha! Penny!
The after-party coffee party at Starbucks BlueWave was a VERY interesting and fun event too! Offline conversations and exchanges of wisdom (kung meron man), knowledge, stories, movie spoilers, and issues other than Malu Fernandez – things which you will never read online (kaya nga offline diba?). Hung out with my fellow kiddos (yes, bata pa po kaming lahat): DocTess, JP, Karlo, Benj, Allen, Jehz, Darwin.
One thing we noticed though was that in events like these, the representation of the gay blogging community is quite scarce. Our theory is that one of the reasons for this is the fact that some of our fellow gay bloggers are not really “out” yet and they could not afford to be outed in meetups and events like these. That, or they just have other appointments falling on the same time. We hope that one of these days, a good number of our kind would show up. Let’s all together shout: Makibakla, Huwag Matakot!

Well, there are many gay bloggers out there but they prefer to be more discreet, I guess. At least ikaw proud ka, di ba?

@prudence
Correct! We can’t force them naman out of the closet. It is after all, they’re choice and we respect that. Minsan nga lang, medyo sayang ang opportunity to meet others. But then again, marami pa namang ibang avenues to do that.
@alohapenny
Onga eh. Next time chika tayo!
@Chase
Why don’t you go? Next time pag meron, i’ll let you know.
