MakiBAKLA, Huwag Matakot – The TasteAsia Event 2

August 25th, 2007

In a lame attempt at forcing the event venue’s place into the title, we originally posted a different title (Bakla Tastes More Bloggers) but that didn’t sound right, so we took it out. We don’t wanna add more controversy to the already very controversial local blogging community.

Bakla’s pink and blue self-painted shoes brought him to the SM Mall of Asia’s Taste Asia where SM Hypermarket recently announced the winners of their blog writing contest. The event, dubbed as the Biggest Bloggers’ Party in the Philippines as of yet, sure did come with a lot of surprises. As we previously reported live in this blog, there were tons of food, booze, bloggers, and prizes and surprises.

We here at Bakla Ako dot Com would like to congratulate the winners of the writing ajmatela photo by dhon jason de belencontest as well as the winners of the raffle prizes (uhm, we think everyone with a card or name-paper, brought home a prize)! Kudos goes to SM Hypermarket and Google Philippines Country Consultant Aileen Apolo for yet another successful event! We’re looking forward to the next Taste Asia event (and hopefully with the chocolate fondue fountain back)!

Bakla, in his backless shirt (yes, backless yun!) met a lot more bloggers (thanks to the game sheet!) during and after the party. As always, the shy alter ego of Bakla overpowered initially. Had fun hanging out and talking about whatnots and pick-up lines with the uber-cool Lauren (who was clad in a red Wordpress shirt that most everyone envied), and Rocky. (We were quite sociable, we three, weren’t we?).

See how sociable we were: » Read more: MakiBAKLA, Huwag Matakot – The TasteAsia Event 2

Bakla’s Affair with…

August 25th, 2007

We’re coming clean now. Bakla may seem to project a very straightforward and prudent (prudent daw?) image here, but we’re coming clean now. Baklang AJ is sinful. small1.jpgThis week, he had himself involved in an illicit yet heart-warming, dark yet evil, and sinful but oh-so-delicious affair with… » Read more: Bakla’s Affair with…

And in other news, Malu Fernandez has issued her statement of apology:

I am humbled by the vehement and heated response provoked by my article entitled ‘From Boracay to Greece!’ which came out in the June 2007 issue of People Asia. To say that this article was not meant to malign, hurt or express prejudice against the OFWs now sounds hollow after reading through all the blogs from Filipinos all over the world. I am deeply apologetic for my insensitivity and the offensive manner in which this article was written, I hear you all and I am properly rebuked. It was truly not my intention to malign hurt or express prejudice against OFWs.

As the recent recipient and target of death threats, hate blogs, and deeply personal insults, I now truly understand the insidiousness of discrimination and prejudice disguised as humor. Our society is bound together by human chains of kindness and decency. I have failed to observe this and I am now reaping the consequences of my actions. It is my fervent hope that the lessons that Ive learned are not lost on all those who through anonymous blogs, engaged in bigotry, discrimination, and hatred ( against overweight individuals , for example )

I take full responsibility for my actions and my friends and family have nothing to do with this. To date I have submitted my resignation letters to both the Manila Standard and People Asia, on that note may this matter be laid to rest.

Go! Mastercard is a “No! Mastercard”

August 21st, 2007

It’s been more than ten business days since I called Metrobank about my Go! Mastercard replacement card, but all the representatives could tell me was that it was already with the courier and all I needed to do was wait for the card.  I have given the poor phone agent a lashing. It’s standard operating procedure for them for the replacement cards to arrive within, again, WITHIN, five to ten business days.  I called them last August 6, but it’s already August 21, I still don’t have the replacement card.  That’s the credit card that I have dedicated to paying for my server and other online costs.

logo_gomastercard.jpgGood thing my back-up, my trusty Bank of the Philippine Islands credit card, has been replaced within three business days. So much for “Go!” in “Go Mastercard!”.  I’m thinking of just letting “GO!” of the Go Mastercard, use the balance transfer features of my BPI or my other cash back credit cards.  That way, I can finally rid myself of this sucky credit card whose collections department is a hundred times more proactive as their customer service department!

Tip for anyone who plans to get one, compare credit card offers and ask around for banks which have exceptional customer service! Now excuse me while I call the bank and calmly ask them to tell me the difference between their business day and my business day.

Imperyalistang Maynila : A Wika2007 Entry

sa panulat ni Baklang AJ

(English translation at the bottom of the entry)

Walang pagsisisi.

Drab to Fab: When Clothes Come out of the Closet

August 17th, 2007

Is your closet bursting at the seams? No, we’re not talking about THAT closet; if you prefer hiding inside it for the rest of your lives, we won’t force you out of it. For as long as you’re happy, then we’re happy for you too! We’re talking about those clothes in your closet which you have forgotten about, clothes that have become ill-fitting (thanks to the holiday eating season – which for most of us is, well, everyday), clothes that have stains, discolorations, pigmentation (huh?), tears, etc. There are many ways for us to get rid of all these “dirt” and unsightly entities inside oour closet. For one, we can make use of our generous alter egos and donate the clothes to charitable institutions. If you’re the business-minded kind, then you can open up a garage sale (or ukay-ukay store). If you have siblings, hand the clothes down to them. Or if you’re a pack-rat and everything-has-a-sentimental-value kind of person (like I am), then you might as well keep the clothes.

dsc00100.JPG

Keeping these clothes, however, means that we’re using up more closet space – specially because some of us just love shopping! So there’s no more choice left but to throw them all away? Please, don’t throw them all away, my love, my love, don’t throw them all away…

We love shopping don’t we? It is undeniable (I’d rather use just that than say undeniable “fact” because I don’t have the stats to prove that it is indeed a fact) that we kind of always want to get a hold of what’s hot in the industry, or whatever celebrities are endorsing. A change of wardrobe every six (or three?) months sure is something thatcimg0191.JPG many of us want. Some of us actually purchase something new to fill our closet’s imagined void every pay out, right? We do this repeatedly and until our closets want to explode and the entities inside just wanna come out!

But what if you can’t afford to throw away, donate, sell, all these? Well, Bakla comes to the rescue and gives you some tips based on his personal clothing experience (disclaimer: this doesn’t make us an authority on matters like these, but we’d like to play as such). One word, I guess, would summarize it all: RECYCLE!

You save money, you save on closet space. Turn your trash into cash. Turn drab to fab! Uhm, recycle? That’s so not in! Kebs, if it’s not in.

Recycling doesn’t have to mean reusing your old clothes, that’s why it’s recycle and not re-use!
