Ugly Betty’s second season is definitely going to be helluva fun! Betty and her “friends” at Mode magazine have lots of surprises for us. James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) is appearing in one (we hope more) episode wherein he plays an owner of a fashion house who refuses to conduct business with Mode for reasons relating ro Rebecca Romjin’s character (we refuse to divulge it for the sake of our friends who have not seen the first season yet, no spoilers here).
Filipino-American gay actor Alec Mapa (starred in numerous American TV shows and some movies - Connie and Carla) is another big thing to look forward to in Betty’s second season. If you’re a fan of Desperate Housewives, you would recognize him as the best friend of Wisteria Lane resident Gabrielle Solis (played by Eva Longoria).

In Ugly Betty, Alec will play the role of Suzuki St. Pierre, a fashion writer. Word has it that Alec’s character is recurring and we will definitely see more of him than we will of Dawson, err, James Van Der Beek. This is something big for us here at Bakla Ako, May Reklamo. This is something we should be really proud about. Another Filipino (though US-born) is in the spotlight, and two, he is gay! Yehey! This actually isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a taste of Filipino in the hit ABC series. We remember that episode where Japanese designer was followed by his entourage with a stereo booming Black-Eyed Peas’ Bebot (bebot, bebot, be, bebot bebot be… Filipino, Filipino!) Okay, so we’re too patriotic. Ain’t nothing wrong with that, right?
Alec says he got the Ugly Betty gig because people wanted more of him after seeing him perform at the GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Awards. We’re definitely looking forward to Ugly Betty’s second season which promises to be “Brighter, Bolder, Bettyer!” September 27th na, Ugly ka na ba?
