Practical Fashion Tip #2

Bakla’s Practical Fashion Tips is a series of mini-blog posts giving out advice on fashion for the gay man. This ambitious project is, well, very ambitious as I do not really have the authority when it comes to fashion. What I have though is a wide experience in dressing up — be it to the nines or to the dumps (yes, you still have to look good even if you’re just going to the dumps!). The most important feature of this series though is practicality, because we have to admit that even if you don’t have a lot of money to buy clothes, fashion still has no mercy!

Practical Fashion Tip #2: Socks

White socks only go with black shoes if you’re in grade school or high school or if you’re Michael Jackson. But you know you’re no longer in grade school or high school, and you’re definitely not Michael Jackson!

The general rule when wearing socks with dress shoes and corporate attire is that they should at least match the color of your pants.  They don’t necessarily have to be the same shade or hue or color, they just need to at least complement each other.  If you have the extra budget, you may also experiment with different prints, styles, and designs (argylle, hounds tooth, stripes, pinstripes, etc.).
