Salt and Pepper.

That was the hairstyle/color I wanted done on me for the L’Oreal makeover.  When Coy asked me what specific makeover I wanted,  I was all set on having a Taylor Hicks cum George Clooney do.  After all,  I already have lots of gray hair and I was tired of having my locks colored brown (and different shades of it). 

I was a little excited about this makeover so I dragged myself out of work as early as I could just so I’d have enough time to take a shower and pick the clothes I was gonna wear for the video we were about to shoot that day.  The early bird catches the worm.  Poor worm. But yes, I was the earliest among our brood so I’d like to think that I got more preferential treatment based on how Karina, the manager/colorist/owner entertained me.  We talked about the salon, L’Oreal, Kerastase, and a whole bunch of other things.  It was then that I noticed that service they offered was more than just your ordinary salon service - they treat their customers as if they were family. 

The clean and crisp-looking salon is quite out of the ordinary.  It’s cleanliness is unlike any salon I’ve been to before.  Other salons may be clean, but they kind of look like a hospital.  When I walked in,  what welcomed me was a comforting sense of cleanliness and not a clinical one.

Karina explained to me the different face shapes that people have and what hairstyle was good on my particular face shape.  Since I just had a haircut a few days earlier, I told her that I only needed coloring and that I wanted salt and pepper.  She explained to me that it was possible but the process would require bleaching (or was it double-bleaching?) my hair, with the possibility of wounding my healthy scalp. 

Yes, I have healthy scalp and hair.  This I found out through Regine’s Salon’s state of the art equipment provided by Kerastase.  The Kerastase specialist got this pen-like implement (which I later found out was a magnifier) and started “drawing” lines all over my hair and scalp.  My attention was then directed to the computer screen where I saw strands of hair and the scalp magnified like 100x.

After learning about my healthy hair and the risk of getting hurt and burnt because of bleaching, I decided that Salt and Pepper was not gonna be a good idea. That’s when I entrusted my life, err, my hair, to Karina and her team.  I told them that I wanted something that can easily be used to switch from corporate to clubbing.  Something not too outrageous and something not too simple.  I wanted my hair to stand out.

First, they studied my face shape. The style and the color of my hair must complement my face, so I was told. Then they moved to my hair type - which is naturally straight, fine and has low volume. So I ended up with a shorter cut (than the short one I already was sporting) and a L’Oreal Majilift Matte Blonde hair color.  They also colored my eyebrows so that it matched my hair.  That was actually a very good idea because had my eyebrows remained pitch black and my hair was Matte Blonde, I would have looked like I had my hair done at the neighborhood Agua Oxigenada (Hydrogen Peroxide) salon.

What I like about the experience was that I, like all their other customers who were there, was treated so specially.  The staff attended to every possible need that I had.  Sometimes, even before I asked for it, they’d already have it on the ready.  Well, they have been in the business for more than 28 years and most of their staff have been with them for more than a decade.  So that explains the kind of service they have!

Like I told Karina and the rest of the staff of Regine’s Salon, I’m now a convert!  Next time I’m getting a haircut, I’m definitely going to get one at Regine’s Salon.
