This is one crazy dance! Some of its steps remind me of the rave dance era in the late 90’s to early 2000s (or so I’d like to remember). If you’re familiar with the glowsticks and that rave dance culture kinda thing that sprung from out of nowhere in the early 2000’s, then this may be familiar to you.
Tecktonik is a dance (craze?) that originated in Paris by a group of employees of a dance club there. And believe it or not, this dance is the only dance whose name is protected by a registered trademark. You see, Tecknotik is not just about the dance, it is about both dance and music.
It borrows heavily from elements of glowsticking, and hip-hop dance moves including popping and locking, vogueing and wacking. Tecktonik was featured prominently at the 2007 Paris Techno Parade on September 15.[ It is popular at Gay Pride events in France and was notably so at the event in Nantes and Lyon in June 2007, although it is not specifically associated with the gay subculture. As this blog reports, the original inventor of tck, as it is also known, did not intend for it to become a craze. Tck is now a big thing in Paris and other parts of Europe, thanks to video-sharing sites like YouTube. Watch this video to find out why it’s become such a hit.

Some say that the reason why Tecknotik became a hit is because of the younger brothers and sisters of those who are into the dance. Since they were not allowed in clubs (because they were younger than 18), they resorted to the Internet to express themselves in tck mode.
So why do I wanna learn this dance? Uhm, I just want to. And watching the video tutorials is so much fun, specially since the guys on the videos are cute! There’s a lot more video tutorials here. And yeah, on YouTube too.
So if anyone out there knows original/real tck, and is cute, please do teach me!
