Baywatch Hunk Jaason Simmons Comes Out

Ah, Baywatch.  When I was younger, one of my guilty pleasures was watching Baywatch.  I was so interested with the stories in each episode that every time Baywatch was on, I would drop everything I was doing and stay glued to the TV.  Okay, that was a lie. I was not that interested in the stories but was interested in the lifeguards! Back then,  I was more interested in the female lifeguards than I was with the male ones. Yes, I went through that stage!

However, I will not deny that the guys on the show did strike my curiosity. I think that was the time when I started fearing that I might turn out to be gay.  Like many people out there – straight and gay – I fantasized about drowning, calling for help, and ending up being rescued by a lifeguard.  And yes, the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation that would progress into something similar to that drink they serve in bars – Sex on the Beach!

When I finally came to terms with my sexuality, I secretly hoped that that fantasy would come true. That probably is one of the reasons why I never bothered learning how to swim. But then again, I knew that those Baywatch hunks were straight and there was no chance in hell that they would turn out gay.

Until now.

A PETA Summer!

Summer is almost here!  And I’m sure that many of us are dying to get our skins kissed by the sun.  When this year started,  I said to myself that I will not be spending extra cash on personal travels.  So this means that there will be no Boracay and no trips abroad for me this year.  But knowing myself, I’m sure that may change.  It’s still after all, still very early in the year.

One alternative to traveling that I promised myself is to go and revisit my love for the stage.  No, I will not act and will not be a part of a theater production.  Instead, I will be watching as many plays and things that many “cultured” people do.

Enter PETA.  The PETA Theater Center must have heard my thoughts because this summer, they are hosting a series of exciting happenings. On April 12 and 13, the world-renowned LOBOC Children’s Choir will sing music from the 19th Century Philippines. Ever since I’ve seen a feature of them on TV some four or five years back,  I’ve always wanted to watch them and hear them live! And thanks to  Encuentro Filipino (the show’s title), I’m gonna have my chance! Proceeds of the shows will help restore the Loboc Church (which is a National Heritage Site) and generate scholarship funds for these talented children of Bohol.

Show Schedules:
April 12, 3:00 PM  – with guest choir UP Cherubims
April 12, 7:30 PM  – with guest choir Mandaluyong Children’s Choir
April 13, 3:00 PM  – with guest choir Ateneo Chamber Singers
April 13, 7:30 PM  – with guest choir UP Singing Ambassadors

(Tickets available at P1,000, P700, and P500)

Another series of events that I’m looking forward to is Midsummer Nyt Hap’ning! On all Friday nights of April, the PETA Theater Center Roof Deck will be transformed into a bar where people can walk in and expect different kinds of treats!

The first Friday night, April 4, is all about Salsa! Guests can Salsa the night away on their own or with the help of the dance instructors who will be there to help people move and groove to the beat of Latin America on stage.

Comedy Improv Nyt, April 11, will have guests laughing with and learning from the Philippine Playhouse.

On April 18, in the tradition of cafe chantant, PETA transforms songs composed for its women’s plays into an entertaining night of music, laughter and performance in Women’s Cabaret!

And on the last Friday night, April 25, be there  in an exciting evening of fire, colors and rhythm as PETA showcases poi and zip exhibitions and a pageantry of style and masks in the most outrageous fashion parade!

Tickets to the Midsummer Nyt Hap’ning! only cost P200 each – inclusive of 1 free drink!

I think I now know where to spend (or spend less for)  my summer!

For reservations or inquiries, you may reach The PETA Theater Center at 410-0821, 725-6244, 0917 815 4567, or 0918 906 8083 (Ask for Pam, Julie or Badette).

This GUCCI GANG does COKE!

Good morning Upper East Siders, gossip gay here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manila’s elite!

I’m sure you have heard about the latest scandal that has struck Manila’s high society. And we’re here to dish out some new information. But what’s the difference between gossip and scandal? Let’s ask my sister, Gossip Girl:

Gossip Girl: What’s the difference between gossip and scandal? So glad you asked. Anyone can commit a minor indiscretion and generate a day’s worth of buzz, but in order for gossip to birth a true scandal it requires the right person to be in the wrong place. Take one “it” girl on a pedestal, add a crowd eager to see her fall, and give them the means to knock her down.

We scoured the Internet for some juicy details that we can find on this Gucci Gang and found some sources that confirm that they actually do COKE (photo after the jump)!

I Got My Just Desserts!

Free Dessert? Sure would love that! My friends know that I’m such a sucker for desserts. And it would be heaven if I had like one table full of desserts for me. And I’d like to thank TriNoMa and Yehey.com for inviting me to the Dessert Haven: Overflowing Dessert Choices! I knew that I was gonna have a great time and I was gonna have a sugar rush so I filed for a vacation leave from work on that day.

And sugar high I was! There was dessert after dessert after dessert… And yes, I got my just desserts!

I got to sample (for free) desserts of different shapes, sizes and levels of sweetness! Apparently, those desserts were part of TriNoMa’s Free Dessert Promo. For every single-receipt purchase at any 3rd and 4th level TriNoma Park restaurant, you are entitled to a free dessert. The last leg of this promo will be on March 13 to 16 during mall hours at TriNoMa.

Wanna see what you’re gonna get? Check out the slideshow below or view the photos at my Flickr account.

Binibining Pilipinas World 2008 Janina San Miguel’s Answer: The Q&A Transcript

I’m sure many of you have seen clips of this on YouTube or watched the coronation night of Binibing Pilipinas 2008 on television. And I’m sure that many of you fell off your seats either in laughter, disappointment, frustration, or a combination of the three.

Earlier, I shared my two cents’ worth on what’s wrong with Binibini so I will no longer bore you with rants about the whole joke that the pageant has become. Instead, I’ll share with you the transcript of the answer of contestant number 15, Janina San Miguel, to judge Vivian Tan’s question in the Top Ten interview portion.

Janina eventually went home with the Binibining Pilipinas World 2008 title and will represent the country in the Miss World pageants sometime in the last quarter of this year. The challenge now is for the Binibining Pilipinas Charities to coach her on her language skills. They have at least six months to do that. Read the rest of this entry »

Manila High Society and The Gucci Gang Scandal

In the past few days, I have been addicted to reading and re-reading entries and refreshing pages to check for new comments of this certain blog. Oh how we love scandals!

Manila’s so-called high society, the socialites or the elites (whatever you call them), must be up in arms now and on the lookout. I think many of them are monitoring the blog to see if they have been incriminated in the issue. The blog has actually opened up a can of worms. The goal of Aussie Brian Gorrell, the owner of the blog, is to get his money back. As was stated in the blog, DJ Montano, the Filipino ex-boyfriend of a year and a couple of months, owes Gorrell about $70,000. That’s in dollars ha! Gorrell wants Montano to pay up.

And that opened Pandora’s Box. Montano who is allegedly part of a group infamous in local high society circles as The Gucci Gang. The Gucci Gang is now on the hot seat as issue after issue about them have come up. What’s worse is that most of these issues about them came from readers’ comments. And names from the alta-sociedad have been incriminated and more and more names are coming up – mostly from readers. These altas must be pissing in their pants right now. With issues like cocaine use, rich married men who turn out to be gay, social climbing, etc., this blog surely is a hit!

I will not name names here because I am not at liberty to do that (kase naman hindi ako member ng high society no?). If you really want to find out who these people are and what was said about them. I am not confirming or denying any of the facts (kase nga naman hindi nga ako high society! I’m lucky that I’m just an indio) I’m just sharing! It’s like Gossip Girl for real! The blog is so addicting that I have canceled some plans because I couldn’t get away from my computer!

It’s just so amazing that it took a foreigner to expose this”high society” which many locals have put on a pedestal. Let this be a lesson to those who want to social climb their way to Manila’s High Society:

Huwag na mag effort mga ‘te, hindi worth it!

What’s Wrong With Binibining Pilipinas?

Like many of you out there, I have been disappointed in the way our local pageants have been run. We used to be a powerhouse in the international pageant scene but lately, we have been experiencing a dry spell. What has been happening? I know there are many beautiful and smart Filipina women out there, but why don’t they ever end up in local beauty contests?

After watching clips from YouTube of the question and answer portion of the recently concluded Binibining Pilipinas 2008, I got even more disappointed than I ever was. The finalists gave me a very difficult time handling my emotions. It is quite hard to alternate between laughter, shock, disappointment, anger, and wrath. If we want our beauty pageants respected and our contestants given more credit than they deserve, then we have to start thinking about how our beauty contests are run.

Let’s take the Bb. Pilipinas 2008 10 finalists for example. How in the world did some of those girls end up in the finals? It is an undeniable fact that physical beauty is a major factor that is being considered in pageants. But this year’s Binibining Pilipinas seemed like it was the only factor taken into consideration. How do we expect our ladies to bag the titles in international competitions like Miss Universe and Miss World if they are beautiful and dumb at the same time?

Okay, so that was an unfair statement. But I don’t care. We need to take a look at the selection of the contestants. So here are my suggested criteria that must be used in the selection process: Read the rest of this entry »
