An opera based on Annie Proulx’s short story about two men and their 20-year long love story, Brokeback Mountain, will have its Opera version soon, courtesy of the New York City Opera. The movie of the same name won three Oscar awards in 2005.
American composer Charles Wuorinen, who has always wanted to create an opera based on the story, was recently commissioned to write an opera based on the short story. The Opera is set to premiere in 2013.
