Bakla Goes to the Philippine Fashion Week Opening Night

Posted by: AJ In: Are You "A" Gay?| Bakla Bili Na| Beauty| Fasyon| Ganda Lang| Gay Events ()

Thanks to Artistry Make-up1, the official make-up sponsor of the 2008 Philippine Fashion Week, I got the chance of getting an exclusive invite to the opening show of Philippine Fashion Week 2008.

I won’t go so much into the details, instead, I will just ask some questions that were bugging my small brain during and after the opening night:

  1. Bakit walang YDG (Young Designers’ Guild) Members, except for one or two?
  9. Bakit yung ibang models awkward maglakad?
  10. Bakit yung ibang designs eh parang hindi wearable?
  11. Bakit yung ibang designs ay trying too hard?
  12. Bakit yung ibang designs ang cha-chaka?
  13. Bakit yung ibang designs ay parang kinopya lang sa mga foreign designers?
  14. Bakit pinangalanang Spring and Summer ang dalawang (yes, twice na raw gaganapin sa bansa ang Philippine Fashion Week) fashion week shows, eh wala naman tayong spring?
  15. Bakit sa show na patapos na aang summer eh karamihan sa mga damit eh pang-summer pa rin?
  16. Bakit wala masaydong fashion luminaries ang dumalo sa opening night?
  17. Bakit ang tagal magsimula ng show (mga 2 hours bago nagsimula) tapos in 30 minutes tapos na agad?
  18. Bakit ang ibang Pilipino hindi marunong mag pronounce ng “Philippines” na pangalan ng sarili nilang bansa?
  19. Bakit ang boring ng show?
  20. Bakit ako mahihiya?
  21. WILL MISTERHUBS MAKE LAIT NA NAMAN THIS YEAR? LOL.

That’s a bit sad. Philippine Fashion Week 2007 was a great improvement from 2005-06. :-(

Fashion week in the Philippines?

I really don’t see this concept as a concept that would work (not that I’m being cynical)…for now.

I don’t know any modeling agencies except for the int’l. ones, our local designers doesn’t even make ready to wear fab apparels, and frankly, our designers lack the ability to innovate, and lastly, Philippine Fashion week could only work if there would be more schools offering a course aside from La Salle (you know, somewhere cheaper LOL).

But in the end, I am hopeful that one day, we could be a fashion capital as well, because I believe in the Filipino talent. :)

Wow AJ. Great to see you covering events like this. I won’t be surprised if you’ll venture into fashion/style blogging soon. I think you’ll do well in that area. =)

Oh yeah, that was her. She was the only (if I’m not mistaken) designer from YDG who showed at PFW 08

Thanks. I’m actually in the process of putting up a fashion/style blog. It will focus on the cheaper, I mean, the more affordable, fashion styles and tips, etc. No big names and no signatures. :) Fashion for the masses.

@Remcyl:

They have had Fashion Week here for a while now. I’d have to disagree with you on some points in your comment.

1. Fashion week is a concept that can actually work here.
2. There are a lot of local and international agencies here in the country. PMAP, Cal Carries, Elan, Mercator, are just some of them.
3. Some local designers actually produce ready-to-wear clothes. Check out SM Department Stores.
4. Not all our local designers lack the ability to innovate. In fact, we have a lot of great designers who produce quality, fabulous, and wearable items.
5. There are quite a few schools offering fashion design.

We don’t need to become a fashion capital, we just need our own identity.

hi aj! read your blog, and I totally agree with you regarding fashion and modeling here in the philippines. By the way I’m an architecture student in Ust, currently in my thesis year, and I’m planning on a thesis project entitled: La modelo de pilipinas: “The fashion mecca of Asia/Philippines”. It would comprise a modeling school(like jrp, ftv,,a fashion school, agencies(lIKE pmap etc), studios, mainly, it would serve as a main ground for models. It would have training facilities, and more. fASHION week would really be a big concept. What else could you suggest that I could Input in my building, and if ever, where do you want to locate? Your opinion would really help. thanx!

And I totally agree with you, ..we may not have a fashiom capital as paris does, but we can, . if there’s a will, there’s a way. With this thesis, maybe i could prove that philippines can have its own identity.. If you guys have any ideas or concepts feel free to mail me a tara_priscilla@yahoo.com
