Project Runway Philippines Episode 4 Recap

Posted by: AJ In: Beauty| Fasyon| Ganda Lang| Gay TV| Project Runway Philippines ()

This, by far, is the most drama-laden episode of this Philippine franchise of the hit reality TV competition Project Runway! Throughout the week on ETC, clues were dropped in the trailer that showed a word war between Eli and Veejay, and Project Runway Philippines mentor Jojie Lloren to call both of their (Eli’s and veejay’s) attention. Is it as controversial as the trailer promises to be?  We’ll see.

The show started with a recap of the previous episode where Lord Maturan was eliminated.

At the Amorsolo Mansion, some of the designers were discussing the issue of “The Sando”, referring to the black tank top which Veejay and Bo used as an “accessory” in their garment in the last episode.  Pocket interviews of the designers showed that it was Eli Gonzakes who first noticed that the gown that Veejay Floresca and Bo Parcon created in the last episode had a tank top.  More pocket interviews revealed that other designers were also questioning the use of the cPage copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscapeontroversial “sando”. Bo defended himseld by saying that he and Veejay mixed glamour and couture by using their styling to reflect the hip-hop theme.Others called it a technical foul. Eli, while talking to the other designers in one of the rooms said:

It is a unanimous decision that we have to disqualify those bitches. Those scheming bitches.

Back at the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA), host Teresa Herrera announced that the designers were going on a fun-filled and much-deserved rest and relaxation under the sun to relieve them of the stress of the show.  They were sent back to their residence to pack their clothes and everyone were in their fun and excited moods.

The designers arrived at the TRIbeca Private Residence (in Sucat, Muntinlupa) all ready to have fun, swim and take some much-needed relaxation.  At the breakfast table, verbal chaos started with Eli and Veejay picking on each other.  Eli picked on what Veejay was wearing What started out as an exchange of harsh words against each other’s physical attributes became a word fight on their private lives.  Then it led to the controversial issue of “The Sando” in Veejay’s garment. Here are some of the statements that were uttered during breakfast:

I don’t speak horse — Eli Gonzales
Sino ba naman ang tao na hindi magagalit kung sabihan ka ng anu-anong names cheater, horse, butiki! — Veejay Floresca
Why would I be fired? I’m in demand! — Aries Lagat

Veejay: Natatawa na lang ako sa’yo!
Eli: Mas natatawa ako sa’yo.  You look like the staff here! Why did you choose that shirt? Bad fashion sense?
Veejay: And lumalabas na… You are just insecure of me.  Insecure ka lang. That’s it.

The conversation led to the discussion about past challenges where other designers used leggings as part of their styling. Veejay defended himself saying that they used the tank top as part of their styling and not as part of the garment.  Aries shared that Ivan Raborar pointed out that during one challenge where he used leggings, which was also considered a garment.  Ivan, however, explained that they sought permission from the producers, and that he was allowed by the latter to use the leggings. Ava added that if any designer wanted to use an “accessory”, it was very important that they get permission first. Veejay further explained, saying that had he known that permission was needed for him and Bo to use the tank top, he would have asked; because if it wasn’t allowed, they would remove it from the whole look.

The designers at the breakfast table all decided to stop talking about it, prompting Aries to say:

Mag e-enjoy tayo kasi kelangan ko magpa-spa. Kasi hindi ako maganda, magpapaganda ako, okay?

After all that drama, and while the designers were relaxing, their models appeared and jumped off to the pool.  This made some of the designers suspicious.  Some of them sensed something that’s not wuite right.  They knew that there was more to the outing than it seemed.Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscape

And they were right!  Host Teresa Herrera went to the poolside and told the designers that it was an opportune time for the designers to choose their models since they were all there. Teresa called on Ava (who won in last week’s challenge) first then drew the names of the other designers out from the velvet bag to determine the order in which they would choose their models.  Here’s the list:

Ava Paguyo — Paula
Jaz Cerezo — Lexxi
Winnie Chua — Michelle
Ivan Raborar — Hailey
Bo Parcon — Jhenn
Charette Regala — Kat
Philipp Tampus — Chris
Aries Lagat — Lois
Mara Reyes — Jo-An
Veejay Floresca — Angel
Eli Gonzales —   Sally

Model Francie is eliminated.

Teresa left, telling them that she will see them in a little bit.  During lunch, Teresa went to the designers’ table and introduced Trina Abola (Nesvita Product Manager) to the group. Trina announced that the next challenge was up and explained its details to the designers.

The Challenge
This week’s challenge was for the designers to design an outfit for the beach that can be used as day wear and be transformed into nightwear. The twist was that the dress ahd to be created using the colors of the Nesvita brand (predominantly green with touches of yellow, a little bit of pink).  The winning design for this challenge will be worn by Miss Earth Philippines 2008.

This prompted the designers to react sort of semi-violently.

Charette Regala: Everyday is a challenge in Project Runway… There’s no “free lunch”.

Teresa then said that she hoped the designers have already digested their lunch since the challenge was going to start that very minute.  She explained that at the end of the pool, there are two cabanas which contain the materials that the designers will be needing for this challenge. The designers were given five minutes to collect all the materials they would need and that they were allowed to trade with each other within those same five minutes. She gave the go-signal and the designers were off in a frenzied hurry to the cabanas.  There wasn’t any catfight nor any verbal exchange of sweet words though.  Some left their slippers and scalded their feet on the hot grounds, a few were happy with what they had, some traded and shared, while Philipp didn’t get that much fabric since he was last.Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscape

After the crazy five minutes, Teresa announced that the challenge was going to start and that the designers must all head back to SoFA — to the dismay of the designers.

Back at SoFA
The designers talked about how they missed Lord Maturan and shared some personal anecdotes about him.  Aries and Philipp mentioned that on the way back from TRIbeca, Eli and Veejay started talking to each other and that they might have already made-up. Eli said that he was focusing on good karma and that whatever happened will not affect their working relationship since the competition was not a team effort; but ultimately, he just wanted to make his mother proud.

8 Hours until end of day
The designers started working on their garments. Some of them sketching, others started sewing and draping, and some dyed their fabrics and (were seen doing the laundry outside, within the gates of SoFA).

Jojie entered the workroom and and re-explained the brief, gave the time limit (midnight of that night and the next day was the day of the runway show).

4 Hours until end of day
The models arrived for their fitting.

After the models have left, Jojie went to each designer and monitored their progress and mentored them as well. Mara, in her pocket interview, shared that she decided to just stop because she was already too exhausted.

End of day
Jojie sent all the designers out of the workroom as soon as the time was up.

Day of Runway Show
At the Amorsolo Mansion, Charette said that she would be safe, but not too happy with her garment.  Mara explained that she was not too optimistic about the challenge since she was so exhausted.

Back at the SoFA workroom, the designers finished all their garments.Eli said that he just wanted to do his best construction-wise because he wanted the judges and the people watching at home to see that he could create a decent gown.  He also noticed that:

Everybody’s doing the same Miss Gay Gown.

After they were all finished with their garments, the models did not arrive yet.  Instead, soemthign different happened.  The designers all brought their gowns in their hands and headed outside the workroom.  Then the scene cut to all the designers seated inside a small room, with Jojie talking to them.  He explained that for the remaining challenges, the models would not longer be allowed to wear something that their respective designers didn’t sew. The models would only be allowed to wears omethign which the designers have sewn, and things that the suppliers (Get Happy and VNC) have provided. He wished them luck for the remaining challenges and announced that he needed to talk in private with Eli and Veejay.

The Talk

Jojie talked first with Veejay and told him about Eli’s complaint about the tank top. He went on to say that according to the judges, with or without the tank top, Veejay’s garment would still be better than Eli’s and Lord’s creation.  Jojie also related the previous instances when leggings were worn and told Veejay that the issue was already taken care of. Jojie then talked to Eli and explained pretty much the same thing. Eli explained that he was not really the one who complained about it, other designers just asked him to speak out about the issue.

Hair and Make-Up
Scenes of hair and make-up sessions followed.

Runway Show

Teresa Herrera came out and recapped the challenge and the prize for winning the challenge (immunity and dress to be worn by Miss Earth Philippines 2008).  She then gave the rundown of the prizes to be won by the winner of Project Runway Philippines Season 1: P 500,000.00  (about US$ 11,000.00) from Beverly Hills 6750; a fashion editorial in Mega Magazine; Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscapea designer showcase by Mannequin Inc.; Sewing Machines from Brother International; and the chance to show their collection in Philippine Fashion Week.

She then announced the judges for the challenge:  “Fresh fashion designer Rajo Laurel; model and fashion editor Apples Aberin-Sadhwani; and our guest judge for today, Trina Abola from Nesvita.”

The show started and the designers’ outfits came out worn by their models in this order: Bo Parcon, Ava Paguyo, Veejay Floresca, Philipp Tampus, Aries Lagat, Mara Reyes, Charette Regala, Ivan Raborar, Winnie Chua, Jaz Cerezo, Eli Gonzales.

Judging
The following designers were called to step forward:

Eli Gonzales
Bo Parcon
Mara Reyes
Ava Paguyo

They were declared safe.

The models of the remaining designers were called back onto the runway.  The judges asked questions of, and gave comments to the designers’ creations:

On Philipp Tampus

Rajo: (Sighs) Watching Philipp is like a rollercoaster.  You never know what’s gonna come out from his sketch pad. Righ now, probably, we are at the low instead of the high. Page copy protected against web site content infringement by CopyscapeAlways think about less being more.
Apples:  I think it’s a bit too costumey. When she came out with her basket and her bag. It looked like Halloween all over again.  The hat sort of dated the whole look.

On Ivan Raborar

Apples:  It’s very well-made.  And I like that you can wear it so many different ways. Coz nowadays, you don’t wanna spend too much on any garment you’re buying.
Trina:  I would say this is one of the more beautiful pieces.
Page copy protected against web site content infringement by CopyscapeApples:  It’s very beachy. Not bitchy!

On Veejay Floresca

Rajo: It seems very dangerous to swim in that eh.  Paano siya maliligo niyan (How is she supposed to swim in that)?
Veejay: She can adjust the bikini. And niliitan ko lang siya para di siya makita dun sa dress Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscape(And I just made it smaller so it wouldn’t be visible on the dress).
Apples: The dress was okay. But the bathing suit, well, I just couldn’t stand how it fit the model. It was botching up (she said buhtching), it IS botching up in all different places.
Veejay: Sorry.
Apples: Oh, don’t apologize.  Just do better next time.  If you’re still in.

On Winnie Chua

Rajo: It’s kinda difficult to evaluate something that looks like this. You just have to be very careful about your aesthetics. Specially like this, because coming from a young lady designer Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscapelike yourself, for me, it really doesn’t look flattering.
Apples:  The little bo-peep skirt doesn’t really go with the Beyonce top, for me.  I don’t really like the color combination or how you put it together.  I see some promise in you, but you have to step up.

On Aries Lagat

Rajo: I see that what you’ve done here is very fresh and modern, and I really think it’s a wonderful take on the challenge.
Apples:  I love that you can do different things with it. And the jumpsuit is so now.  It’s so fashion forward. Just one comment though. Let her turn around.  I have a little point of Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscapecontention with the hemming.
Aries: Actually, this is just basting.
Apples: Oh, OK.
Trina:  It has a lot of vitality in it, definitely.  And it shows from your model.  Your model seems to be enjoying wearing it.

On Jaz Cerezo

Apples:  It doesn’t look like something someone can wear to the beach. I love the dress.
Trina:  Daytime, Nighttime.  I see myself able to wear somethign like this.  It’s something Miss Page copy protected against web site content infringement by CopyscapePhilippines Earth would want to wear.
Rajo:  I also appreciate it that you listened to the judges, because you’ve done a wonderful job with the styling.  And I appreciated the fact that wala ka na masyadong borlo-borloloy (you didn’t accesorize too much). However, as compared to the rest of your competitors, it is a little bit formal.

On Charette Regala

Teresa:  listening to what you’re explaining and from what I’m seeing, it’s not coming together Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscapefor me.
Rajo: I don’t see the fun in this particular outfit. Coz especially when you put the two together.
Apples:  I’m sorry Charette, I didn’t like it.  It didn’t seem like something anyone can wear to the beach. It’s not working for me. Sorry.

The designers were sent backstage while the judges had a little talk about the designs.

Judges Discussion
The judges thought Ivan had fun with the challenge and it was evident in the model who seemed like she had fun.  Apples didn’t like it at first but she was won over.

The judges loved (Rajo: Lovet!) Aries‘ garment.  They praised it for its ingenuity. Apples would wear it if it was hemmed properly.

Jaz’s outfit came out as a beautiful dress and looked really classy.  Page copy protected against web site content infringement by CopyscapeThe judges also noticed that the Jaz’s styling has improved a lot. Trina said thought that it was something Miss Philippines Earth would want to wear.

Rajo found Veejay’s dress ugly (Napangitan ako).  Apples was disappointed in Veejay because she expected so much more since he has had a bit of experience already and that should have helped him out in this competition.

Philipp was not easy to figure out, for Rajo. Apples thought the dress was so dated.

Charette’s outfit, for the judges, looked like aprons.  Rajo found it saddening aside from being scary (Nakakalungkot bukod sa nakakatakot).

Winnie’s dress was “little house on a prairie meets Beyonce”.  It was the kind of dress that made one say: “Now what was she thinking?” Rajo said that Winnie just “lost it”.

Elimination
The seven designers, who represented the highest and the lowest scores, were called back onto the runway. One of them would be the winner and one of them would go home.  As each designer’s name was called, they were asked to step forward.

First to be called:  Ivan.  Safe.

The winner of the challenge: Aries Lagat!
Aries won the challenge and won immunity and his garment will be worn by Miss Philippines Earth 2008

Next to be called: Jaz. Safe.

Next: Philipp. Safe.

Next: Veejay. Safe.

Two designers left: Winnie and Charette.

Teresa’s lines:

Winnie, we couldn’t see where you were coming from.  Your design was not cohesive.  It was a Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscapemess from top to bottom.  If you wanna stand out, you have got to do better than this.

Charette, your outfit was not just sad, but it made us sad. It was no fun.  And there was no style.  it was dead on arrival.

Winnie is called.  She’s Safe.

Charette Regala is eliminated from the competition.

Teresa (to Charette) :  Take Care.

On Project Runway Philippines Episode 5: It looks like this challenge is going to be very crazy one and a tough one for the designers!  We don’t really have a clue as to what the challenge will be about, but all we know is that more drama is coming our way!

that’s it! I am soo over liking Eli gonzales!

Go Team Veejay Floresca! I see his good intentions in joining the show. and as a designer, he is the only one i see myself wanting to get fitted with his design. Professional and a creative mind, what more can you ask for?

Hey, sucat is in Paranaque not in Muntinlupa…

“The designers arrived at the TRIbeca Private Residence (in Sucat, Muntinlupa) all ready to have fun, swim and take some much-needed relaxation. At the breakfast table, verbal chaos started with Eli and Veejay picking on each other. ”

;)

I don’t enjoy Project Runway Philippines so much because, ok there may be talent, but they talk too much and back stab each other, they have tooo many opinions about each other it’s not quite healthy anymore….

A very detailed in depth recap you got here. =)

I didn’t like the Nesvita challenge because of the limited colors the designers had to work on to. But I must say that this challenge really brought out who is the better designer and who are creative.

I’m glad that this episode showed how Veejay Floresca is so overrated. The top of his two piece was so hideous. Its not even sexy nor slutty. Also I’m glad that it also showed how Mara is overrated as well. She tires me with all her whining “pagod na ako ako” etc. Kairita!

I loved Aries’ and Ivan’s creations. Though the latters designe was bordering on the gimicky and tacky it was still a nice creation.

Thanks! It takes me about 5 hours to finish one episode recap :)
I agree with you on the Nesvita episode. If not for the drama, it would have been such a bore.
