Selda, Daybreak, Ang Lihim ni Antonio on IndieSine

Posted by: AJ In: Gay Film| Pelikulang Bakla ()

Just wanted to give you all a heads up about pink films currently showing at Robinsons Galleria IndieSine. This is the first time I’ve seen three Filipino gay films being shown simultaneously at a local cinema.First we have Ang Lihim ni Antonio, which, if I’m not mistaken, is on its third week. It reportedly earned so well during its first run that it was extended for another week and moved to a bigger cinema. So I guess it’s still doing well that it got extended to a third week.

DESCRIPTION: Antonio, a curious 15-year old boy begins to ponder on the purpose of his life and identity. He has begun confronting issues that affect him- acceptance of his peers, his family that is on the verge of breaking up; and the sudden flare of his sexual urges.Antonio’s mother, Tree, a hardworking community health care worker, is in continuous denial that her husband has left them for another family. Antonio’s best friend, Mike, curiously confronts him regarding his sexual preference. And Antonio’s other best friend, Nathan, is avoiding him after their secret and intoxicated encounter.Antonio’s life begins to take a dangerous turn as his uncle Jonbert begins to live with them one Christmas vacation. Jonbert, a hedonistic and carefree young man, has become Antonio’s destructive sexual aim.STARRING: Jiro Manio, Josh Ivan Morales, Nino Fernandez, Kenjie Garcia, Shamaine Buencamino

Screening Schedule: 12:40PM | 3:00 PM | 5:20 PM | 7:40 PM | 10:00 PM
Robinsons Galleria Cinema 2
(schedules may change withour prior notice)

Our friend, the Wilted Prune gave us this very interesting news:

The Director’s Cut will also be shown again on March 5 at 9PM at the UP Film Institute.

x-x

Then we have Selda. Selda has previously been screened at IndieSine and is now back, sharing the IndieSine Cinema (Cinema 8) with Adolf Alix Jr.’s Daybreak.

SELDA tells the story of the friendship that develops between two prison inmates, Rommel (Sid Lucero) and Esteban (Emilio Garcia), who acts as his friend and protector. After their jail term, however, their attempt to define and explore the boundaries of their relationship leads to tragedy.Selda is a return to classicist forms and delivers a stylish, deliberately-paced treatise on love. At moments strange, Selda is a sublime and disquieting portrait of a young man whose search for happiness, innocence and true love is laden with guilt and doubt.

Ara Mina, Emilio Garcia and Sid Lucero with Michael De Mesa, Allan Paule, Soliman Cruz, Ping Medina, Raul Morit and Hector Macaso.

Screening Schedule:

>>>UPDATE: SELDA WILL NO LONGER BE SHARING CINEMA 8 WITH DAYBREAK. INSTEAD, DAYBREAK WILL BE SHOWING BY ITSELF FROM TODAY UNTIL MARCH 4TH. SELDA WILL BEGIN IT’S SOLO RUN (return, actually) AT INDIESINE AFTER THAT. THANKS TO ADOLF FOR THE UPDATE:

Hey AJ,
Thank you for your support for DAYBREAK.
There were last minute changes in the set-up. DAYBREAK will solely be playing at Indiesine for its 2nd week run at Indiesine starting today till March 4. SELDA will have its solo run the week after. Thanks for all those who supported us.
Let me know what you think of the movie. Salamat po.
Adolf

The third gay film currently showing at Robinsons IndieSine is Daybreak. Daybreak started its commercial run last Feb 20 so this makes it its second week.

Daybreak is a story about the dynamics of two men over the course of a day deciding whether to leave their partners and be together. Starring Coco Martin and Paolo Rivero and directed by the talented Adolf Alix Jr., Daybreak (from Bicycle Pictures) is a movie that many of us, gay men and straight-folk alike, will surely learn a lot from.

Screening Schedule:
6:30PM | 815PM | 10:00 PM
Robinsons Galleria Cinema 8 (IndieSine)
(schedules may change withour prior notice)

Based on what I’ve seen (I watched Daybreak twice last Monday, and I paid twice too to support Indie Films!) and what I’ve heard from friends, no screening time was feasted on by flies (hindi nilangaw!). Inquirer Rushes reports:

Drumbeaters say that the gay movie “Daybreak” has posted a record in IndieSine as highest grossing film so far.

Directed by Adolf Alix, the risqué drama was approved without cuts by the Censors, which commended it, calling it “beautiful.”

So I’m encouraging everyone to watch these films while you still can. Waiting for the DVDs to come out may just be too long a time. And please, DO NOT BUY PIRATED versions, nor download any torrents. If we want more pink films, or indies at least, support these movies! There are more gay indie films coming in the next few months so do watch out for them.

I’ve already seen all three films and I like all of them better than Sikil. While all three of them are not really extraordinarily exceptional, I’m having a hard time deciding which of the three is the best.

Antonio had a really good story and realistic dialogue and of course, it showed plenty of skin. Hehehe.

Selda, although too long for my taste, had excellent cinematography, superb acting, and I believe will become a classic like Oro, Plata, Mata.

Daybreak has the angelic Coco Martin and the story is very simple and down-to-earth which makes it more relatable to us normal gay people.

Go watch Selda. :) It’s not as gay as the two others but every cinephile should see it at least once.

hi adolf…lost of unnecessary idle parts…. coco’s acting improved and really suits his angelic face… the other actor’s acting was a disappointment….and the diction is annoying.

The relatable story and COCO Martin made me like this movie…

Patrick, thanks for the comment.

For those who have not seen DAYBREAK yet, it’s moving this March 4-11 at Robinson’s Place Ermita and is simultaneously showing at Robinson’s Place Bacolod.

Thanks!
