Rustom Padilla is now Bebe Gandanghari

January 21st, 2009

I know this is kind of late, but we just wanted to share with you (for those who haven’t heard of the news yet… I mean, where have you been hiding?) the new Rustom Padilla: Bebe Gandanghari or BEBE for short (Bebe also means Be all you want to Be!”). (watch the Startalk interview here)

We can only surmise that ever since he came out on the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition, he has gone through so many things in his life – and we were all witnesses to some of them. One of them was when he surprised everyone at the Urian Awards last year when he entered the stage (to present an award) dressed in women’s clothes.

Recently, he came out on national television and announced that Rustom Padilla is now “dead” and he is now called Bebe Gandanghari. We knew this time was gonna come after he announced a few months ago that he did not need permission from anyone to wear women’s clothes. Also, he said in an interview in October of 2008 that the reason why he was dressed in women’s clothes was that he was doing a character study to prepare for his one-(wo)man show at the Music Museum this February.

So do you think Bebe Gandang Hari will stay for long or is this just a publicity stunt for his show? I don’t know. One thing I know is that he’s brave enough to face the consequences of his actions. Ganda mo ‘teh!

Bakla and 2008

January 5th, 2009

Palawan 12.2008 077

Welcome 2009 and welcome to a brand new year of kabaklaan here on “Bakla Ako, May Reklamo?”!

2008 was such a great year for the blog and we hope 2009 will be an equally good if not better year.

So let’s do a quick recap of what happened in 2008. Here are some highlights:

Early in the year, I launched the “Are You ‘A’ Gay?” video blog series, which turned out to be just a few episodes.  I will no longer promise to start a new series nor to continue the series, I will just post whenever I feel like it.  Besides, no one really watched the videos. Haha.  It was also in January when I got gaybar-devirginized as I, along with some friends, visited not one, not two, but three gay bars in Manila! And who can forget the Cabalen Trinoma incident?  I was one of the few people who got the chance to meet the infamous Anne from Cabalen! What an honor!

In February, I got to visit Batanes courtesy of Epson Philippines!  And I won a printer by winning  (I was first runner-up) the Epson in Batanes photo contest! I also got the chance to meet Christine Gambito aka HappySlip.  Thanks to the people of Yehey!, I was able to go up onstage and ask HappySlip a question face to face! Not satisfied with that kind of mileage, I also got the chance to be interviewed on video by Janette Toral for the Digital Filipino Club.  It was also during this month that I had the honor of meeting Danton Remoto as we, the FabCasters, recorded a very enlightening, educational, and fun podcast with him. Rustom Padilla: I Don’t Need to Ask Permission

October 6th, 2008

Out Filipino gay actor Rustom Padilla recently stole the scene at the 31st Gawad Urian last October 1 after going onstage as a presenter, dressed in a women’s clothes. Rustom, who won the Best Actor award last year, surprised many people as he went onstage dressed as Binibining Gandang Hari – a character he will be playing in a one-man show at the Music Museum in February.

In an interview with TV show Startalk, Rustom explained that he was dressed as a woman as a part of his preparations for his upcoming show.  He adds that he doesn’t need permission from anyone for him to be able to wear women’s clothes.

Rustom adds, in an interview with Chika Minute, that he finds it very interesting and very challenging to play this role.  He even had to study ballet!  When asked if there’s a difference between the character he is playing and the real-life Rustom, he quipped: Read the rest of this entry »

Gay Filipino Actors?

June 13th, 2007

A list of Filipino actors and celebrities rumored to be gay. Only one of them has come out and is confirmed to be one of us. As for the others on the list, we do not vouch for the veracity of the claims of this video, but we do agree to some of the suspects here… We are not saying that they are gay, this video does. Some of these men are actually already married and have kids.  Then again, one can’t really tell.  Who else do you think should be on the list?

Enjoy.

Here’s the list of actors featured in this video (in order of appearance): Read the rest of this entry »

Pinoy Big Brother Former Housemate Uma Khouny Denies Gay Rumors Anew

March 8th, 2007

Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate Uma Khouny has long been rumored to be gay. Not that there’s something wrong about being gay. Duh? Like the title of this blog asks, “Bakla Ako, May Reklamo?” [I'm gay, got a problem with that?], If Uma is indeed gay, should we take it against him? I highly doubt it. Our sexual orientation should be something we should be proud of.Of course we need not brandish our homosexuality to the whole world. It’s our choice to be out or in the closet. And yes, if Uma is indeed gay, it is his choice to stay inside the closet. But he says he’s straight so let’s leave it at that. A newbie to the local entertainment industry, chances of him committing career suicide by coming out are high – or so he thinks. This is the part where I namedrop the likes of Rustom Padilla, Hollywood celebs Lance Bass of NSync, TR Knight of Grey’s Anatomy, and Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother (but shot up to fame with Doogie Houser, MD). For most of them, ever since they came out (or were forcibly outed), their careers have shot up.

I think it’s the latest trend in the entertainment industry around the world today – seemingly and questionably straight actors and celebrities have come out of the closet. In ultra-conservative Mexico, pop star Christian Chavez, has recently broken the gay taboo with his coming out of the closet. And in more recent news, Read the rest of this entry »
