The Thank You Girls at Cinemalaya!

July 16th, 2009

“If you become the Mutya ng Ikatlong Lahi 2009, why is your skin color dark?”

Familiar?  If you’re thinking “The Thank You Girls” then you, my friend, are not a “thank you girl!” Yes, the indie film that broke the stigma of gay films as raunchy and borderline porn is back!  So here’s one thousand pesos, one thousand pesos, one thousand pesos, Congratulations!

If you were not able to catch the run of “The Thank You Girls” last year, then this is your chance to join five dysfunctional gay beauty pageant veterans in their quest to conquer the grandest competition of beauty, personality and brains!

If God knows, God knows!

“The Thank You Girls” will be shown at the Cinemalaya 2009 Film Festival on July 18, 2009 (Saturday) at 9:00 PM at the CCP Silangan Hall.  So what are you waiting for? Tara na!

Question: Another question for you Ms. Adora Gracia. For you, define darkness.

Answer: Well, that is a very enlightening question indeed. And if I were to define darkness, it’s sitting right beside me.

Bakla and 2008

January 5th, 2009

Palawan 12.2008 077

Welcome 2009 and welcome to a brand new year of kabaklaan here on “Bakla Ako, May Reklamo?”!

2008 was such a great year for the blog and we hope 2009 will be an equally good if not better year.

So let’s do a quick recap of what happened in 2008. Here are some highlights:

Early in the year, I launched the “Are You ‘A’ Gay?” video blog series, which turned out to be just a few episodes.  I will no longer promise to start a new series nor to continue the series, I will just post whenever I feel like it.  Besides, no one really watched the videos. Haha.  It was also in January when I got gaybar-devirginized as I, along with some friends, visited not one, not two, but three gay bars in Manila! And who can forget the Cabalen Trinoma incident?  I was one of the few people who got the chance to meet the infamous Anne from Cabalen! What an honor!

In February, I got to visit Batanes courtesy of Epson Philippines!  And I won a printer by winning  (I was first runner-up) the Epson in Batanes photo contest! I also got the chance to meet Christine Gambito aka HappySlip.  Thanks to the people of Yehey!, I was able to go up onstage and ask HappySlip a question face to face! Not satisfied with that kind of mileage, I also got the chance to be interviewed on video by Janette Toral for the Digital Filipino Club.  It was also during this month that I had the honor of meeting Danton Remoto as we, the FabCasters, recorded a very enlightening, educational, and fun podcast with him. Finally, The Thank You Girls!

August 26th, 2008

The long wait is over.  The much talked about and much-awaited film The Thank You Girls will finally have its world premiere!

The Thank You Girls

The Thank You Girls

On August 28, 2008 (Thursday), The Thank You Girls will be screened at the UP Cine Adarna.  The show begins at 6:30PM.  Tickets are only P100.00 and are available at the gates.

What is the Thank You Girls? From an earlier entry on this blog:

The Thank You Girls is the first film of Charlibebs Gohetia (writer of the much-talked about gay film, Daybreak). The movie is set (and was filmed) in my hometown, Davao City so this one is even closer to my heart! It’s a Visayan film with a gay lingo twist starring non-professional actors from Davao.

I have been following the filming of this movie through the director’s blog and boy was I so excited when Adolf Alix Jr, sent us an email telling us that the film has already been finished and that the trailer is already out!

Synopsis:

Tired of losing in all the beauty competitions in Davao City, five dysfunctional gay beauty pageant veterans decide to travel north to Cagayan de Oro City, in the island of Mindanao, with a mission to conquer the grandest competition of beauty, personality and brains in the province.

They believe that being city dwellers, gays in the province will never stand a chance against them.

Find out more about The Thank You Girls from their official website.
