Why I Deleted My Gay Social Networking and Gay Dating Sites Accounts

September 6th, 2009

I remember signing up for my very first gay dating site – Downelink. It was years and I remember why I signed up. Two reasons actually: to get laid and to find myself a boyfriend.  Months later, I signed up for guys4men (which is not planetromeo), gaydar, manjam, connexion, etc.  And in 2009, I had accounts and memberships to over 15 sites catering to gay dating.

I don’t think having an account with any of these is bad – whatever one’s reasons for joining may be. In fact, I personally think that it’s one good way of finding whatever it is a gay man is looking for. In fact I have found whatever I was looking for – people to have sex with, a boyfriend or two, textmates and friends.

Guys4men+PlanetRomeo: Are You Happy About It?

March 24th, 2009

Guys4men has finally merged with PlanetRomeo and there are mixed reactions from the users of what used to be guys4men. I have, however, seen more dissonance than appreciation of this change. And I can relate to many of those who think that selling merging guys4men with PlanetRomeo was a bad idea. Long before this merger, I already had accounts with both g4m and planetromeo/gayromeo so I’m already used to the interfaces and platforms of both networks. Honestly though, I still prefer the old guys4men interface.

Prior to the merge, Guys4men was the premier social networking site for gay men in the Philippines. But now, I’m not sure if the users are all too happy about Planetromeo.

What do you Think?

There are quite a number of reasons why users of guys4men are not so amenable to this change, so let me name some of them based on my own observations: » Read more: Guys4men+PlanetRomeo: Are You Happy About It?

Guys4Men to Merge with PlanetRomeo

March 1st, 2009

Guys4men is one of the biggest and largest(oh boy do we love big and large things) gay dating sites in the Philippines. And I personally think that it has the best interface among all dating sites that I’m a member of (yes, I’m a slut like that).

PlanetRomeo (also known as GayRomeo) is actually one cool site, which I am a member of too.  If you’re not quite familiar with PlanetRomeo, the guys4men notice says it’s quite similar to guys4men in terms of functionality and vision. Also, PlanetRomeo has more members in Europe. So add Asia + Europe (Guys4men + PlanetRomeo), then you have a Eurasian gay dating site! Charot. The two sites are set to merge on March 18, 2009. According to the merger’s press release, Guys4men user profiles will be moved to the PlanetRomeo web application. What this means for existing Guys4men users is that all their profile contents will be moved to PlanetRomeo, but they will not have to do anything. However, there will be a short time between now and the March 18 merge when Guys4men members will not be able to access the site.

In addition, all Guys4men members will be receiving a PLUS membership (PlanetRomeo’s version of the Supporter Status) for 6 months! Guys4men members with existing SitePoints (I have close to 300 – all referrals!) will have them translated into PlanetRomeo Plus membership in a pro rata allocation.

For those who are NOT interested in joining the merger, all they have to do is delete their guys4men profile before March 18.

Those who opt-out of guys4men before then will not be automatically transferred to Planetromeo, and will miss out on the free Plus membership.

More information can be found on their Press Release Page

My Name is Marc, What’s Yours?

May 26th, 2008

Some random thought while doing Number 2.

Back in the heydays of my sex life dating life, I slept with met a lot of guys. And some most of them I met online – mIRC, guys4men, downelink, connexion, gay.com, manjam, gayromeo, gaydar, even craigslist. More often than not, I used mIRC as it was the quick and easy way to hook-up meet men (I think it still is to this date).

ASL. Stats. Name?

Name? Whenever I was asked what my name was, I would give an instant Marc. “That’s Marc with a C, by the way,” I said. Since I wasn’t out and since the gay community in Davao (then) was too small, I did not risk telling my men my real name. I’m not famous, but as they say, the gay world is really small. I wasn’t out then so I knew that if anyone from my university found out that I was gay, I would be in deep sh*t.

After I came out and after I moved to Metro Manila, I still used Marc. I named my gay self Marc Terrence Garcia. When I first chatted with him, I introduced myself to my first boyfriend as Marc. He, Mike. We both knew that those were not our real names but we just played along with it.

Eventually, the name Marc was getting too old for me. Besides, Kevin Garcia III sounded more “saleable” then. I thought Kevin Garcia III was gonna be my last online identity.  Until Andreii came.  Andreii Garcia, that is.  Countless men later, I decided to just drop the Marc, the Terrence, the Kevin, but kept the Andreii.  But whenever I talked to someone online, I’d tell them that my guys4men profile said my name was Andreii (with two unnecessary letter “i”s at the end) but they can call me AJ.

I wont pretend to be prude and say that I’ve only met quite a few men online, because most of the men I’ve met in my life, I met online.  What were their names?

Carlo, Mike, Miguel, Jeff, Mark, Marc, Josh, Joseph, John, Paul, Paolo.

These are the most common names given to me.  Were these their real names?  Some, yes. Most, not.

What about you, what’s your name?

Free Gay Chat 101

January 6th, 2008

While recording the Fabcast Episode last week, a heavy and heated discussion on online chat transpired. There were differing opinions on whether chatting is bad or good. For some, they see chatting as a venue to find people to hook up with. For others, it all depends on the intention of the person. I think we all agreed to disagree on our views on chatting so I will not discuss the ethics of chat because one, I do not have the moral ascendancy to discuss it, and two, I believe in the cliche that to each his own.

What I will discuss though is the various avenues, software, sites and programs where people can find whatever they want – one night stands, a quickie, webcam jerk-off, phone sex, sex eyeballs, coffee dates, relationships (good luck!), business arrangements, and a million other things.

So without further ado, here are some of the more common Chat rooms where people can engage in Free Gay Chat. I took the liberty of trying all these (as I have before, and for some sites still am logged on to) so I could tell you what the experience is like. I’m speaking from experience so please reserve judgment for the second coming (if you believe in one). Chenesitas!

G4M: Bahay Kubo Out, Longganisa In!

December 19th, 2007

The bahay-kubo is out! I previously whined here about people using guys4men as an online marketing and sales tool for just about anything and everything under the gay sun. While it’s true that people can pretty much do anything in sites like guys4men, some people, in my strong opinion, should exercise a little restraint.

Ever since I wrote on my G4M profile that I do not appreciate getting offers to purchase miniature bahay-kubos that cost P150.00 (sometimes more), offers have become close to zero. That’s good news! Or so I thought. With the crossing out of the bahay-kubos from the picture comes another “hot” item — longganisa! At P110.00, a kilo, these longganisas are a bargain!

g4mlongganisa.jpg

We received another type of message. This one does not sell longganiza, but Yuletime Ham! Why would I want Yuletide ham? See below:

Hello my dear Friends,

I am taking orders on:

* Krismas Pinya Ham Php 350/ kilo
* Premium Cooked Ham 250/ kilo
* American Ham 270/ kilo
* Pear Shaped Ham 270/ kilo
From Pampanga>>>Walang Salitre!!!
Free delivery above 10 kilos, within Metro Manila…plus alpha outside Metro Manila.
Guaraneed 100% meat and Original recipee!!! Masarap!!! Natikman ko na!!! So what are you waiting for…ORDER NA!!

And did you notice that they had a number with all networks? That’s sales! But what will I do with longganisa? It will not make me a better person this holiday season. Besides, i don’t really like eating longganisa (pun not intended)!

These people should just start thinking of how to Make Christmas Memorable for me by buying me the things in my wishlist. Hoping too much? As one ad says, “there’s a light of hope… share and enjoy that great hope freshness.”

Pick-Up Lines from Guys4Men and others

On guys4men and other online gay dating sites, we exchange messages with other men. The messages vary: looking for friendship, seeking a lifetime partner, admiring photos, simply dropping by to say hi, and looking for sex.

I manage a couple (okay more than 10) profiles in different networks, and I’ve had my share of these exchanges. What strikes me most though is the weird way some people employ to get through to me. I mean I’m not a perfect catch and I’m not all that, but some people could at least use a shot of creative juice (pun not intended).

When I thought about it, I realized that it really is kind of difficult to come up with a good pick-up line when sending out messages to men I’m interested in. Whenever I see a profile with a hot guy (whom I know I can’t get), I simply say: “Whoa! What a Hottie.” Pretty lame, eh? If I’m interested in knowing the person better, I read through their text profile and find something that strikes me and start off from there. Sometimes I get too lazy but the wanting to just say hi to a guy (and stupidly hoping to get more than just a “hi” for a reply), leaves me with no choice but the cliche, “Hi there!”

However, some people just make me laugh with their one-liners! My pet peeves when receiving messages are those which sell me miniature bahay-kubos and m2m vcds or offer me massage services (overpriced pa!). Then there are those that send me Yuwie.com invites, messages using sms language, and the pa-conyo and corny pa-sweet-kolehiyala language (elow pow, wer u poe? add u me naman sa frendzter, kain na u, sex poh tayo!) Seriously, do you honestly believe people would reply to that? Oh and yeah, there are those who ask if I have a SUN number. Kebs na!

So here’s a list of actual and real messages that I’ve received:

Guys4Men (G4M) Supporter Status

October 13th, 2007

Bakla has a guys4men account. That’s undeniable. Well, how can we deny that when every time a member logs on to the site, Bakla’s face is plastered all over the “Online Now” pages? Surely, many members would think that this Bakla is a whore. We hate to say this, but as much as he would like to be called one, he isn’t. And contrary to popular belief, Bakla does not use G4M to hook up with men. If he did, then he would not be like the Sahara desert, if you get our drift.

For those of you who are not familiar with guys4men, or G4M as it is fondly called by many of its members, it is a social networking/dating site that caters to homosexual males:

Guys4men Click here to visit guys4men.com
Guys4men is an ad-free site which offers their services for free (primarily, or you can sign up for a supporter status at a price). It has a clean and simple interface which does not take forever to load. Users can browse profiles, upload G-rated, Private, and X-Rated pictures, build a network (which isn’t used that much), send messages to other users, post and exchange messages on their forums, or use their G-rated and XXX Webcam Chatrooms, and many more!

Supporter status is when a member has 5 or more Site Points. Supporters get more inbox space (200 against the regular 100), more photo space (30 against the regular 10), appear on the first few pages of the “online now” list, and the ability to view profiles of the last 10 people to view their profiles (regular members don’t have this function) and many other perks! Here’s the complete list:

  • get more messages! your profile in the first few ‘online now’ and search result pages is seen by everyone
  • see more guys! view unlimited results in member searches or ‘online now’ pages
  • get there first! message guys4men newbies before any one else can
  • see who has been looking at your profile
  • send messages to guys even when they have a full inbox
  • your message inbox size increased to 200 messages
  • bookmark up to 500 guys
  • ’saved threads’ feature to manage forum threads you’re watching
  • upload up to 30 pictures to your profile
  • *supporter* indication on your profile

This supporter status actually makes the “supporter” member’s G4M experience a whole lot better! Bakla never spent a single greenback nor a single centavo just so he can get supporter status. So how the heck did he earn those 65 Site Points?

Curious much? We’ll tell you soon. :)
