June is LGBT Pride Month for the US – Obama

June 5th, 2009

US President Barrack Obama has recently issued a statement acknowledging and declaring June 2009 as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month” in the United States.

Will we ever have our own? I doubt it, but I’m hopeful.

Here are some highlights from Obama’s statement that I find quite interesting:

  • The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but there is more work to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect.
  • At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world.
  • We must also commit ourselves to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic by both reducing the number of HIV infections and providing care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS across the United States.
  • During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2009

– - – - – - -

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Forty years ago, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted police harassment that had become all too common for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Out of this resistance, the LGBT rights movement in America was born. During LGBT Pride Month, we commemorate the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans.

LGBT Americans have made, and continue to make, great and lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of American society. There are many well-respected LGBT leaders in all professional fields, including the arts and business communities. LGBT Americans also mobilized the Nation to respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic and have played a vital role in broadening this country’s response to the HIV pandemic.

Due in no small part to the determination and dedication of the LGBT rights movement, more LGBT Americans are living their lives openly today than ever before. I am proud to be the first President to appoint openly LGBT candidates to Senate-confirmed positions in the first 100 days of an Administration. These individuals embody the best qualities we seek in public servants, and across my Administration — in both the White House and the Federal agencies — openly LGBT employees are doing their jobs with distinction and professionalism.

The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but there is more work to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect.

My Administration has partnered with the LGBT community to advance a wide range of initiatives. At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world. Here at home, I continue to support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to LGBT Americans. These measures include enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security. We must also commit ourselves to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic by both reducing the number of HIV infections and providing care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS across the United States.

These issues affect not only the LGBT community, but also our entire Nation. As long as the promise of equality for all remains unfulfilled, all Americans are affected. If we can work together to advance the principles upon which our Nation was founded, every American will benefit. During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to turn back discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

BARACK OBAMA

Guys With iPhones!

May 21st, 2009

I love guys. I would love to own an iPhone.  I would love to love and own a “Guy with iPhone”!

What the heck is that exactly?  Well, if you haven’t heard from the GAYpevine yet, Guys With iPhones is back online after they were “booted” out of Tumblr.  It had a big following in and out of Tumblr prior to it moving to a new server/host.  And now we’re happier as we can be!

What exactly is Guys With iPhones?  Well check this picture out:

That’s just one photo.  And that is one of the very few which are not NSFW – one of the safer ones. The others are really mind-blowing and some you would actually want to blow! The site is a collection of photos of Guys who have iPhones. The guys are in various states of undress and sometimes make you feel like you’re under duress!

And since I made a vow to my prude self not to post nudies on this blog, here’s a screenshot of one of the “safer” pages:

gwip

The photos are either found online or in most cases, sent in by the guys themselves!

Now I wanna get an iPhone.  I wanna get a guy with an iPhone!

Head on over to: Guys With iPhones

The Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili Scandal is NOT Here

May 20th, 2009

No, I don’t have a copy embedded here.  But I have seen the videos and I must say that… uhm….Sarap. (Not the girls ha!)

Many people get lost online and end up on this blog entry of mine from way back November of 2008 – even before the scandal and this whole craziness erected, I meant, erupted.  Let me just say that the video scandal starring Dr. Hayden Kho with Katrina Halili (and some other girl? I really don’t know since I didn’t pay any attention to the girls) is not in that blog post.  It could be somewhere near it though.

Aruba Bar Does it Again: BB Gandanghari Refused Entry

April 25th, 2009

Aruba Bar in Metrowalk has done it again.  This bar, which reeks of discrimination, has continually refused entry to transgenders via a sign at the entrance:  No Cross-Dressing.

BB Gandanghari went to Aruba Bar & Restaurant because she wanted to watch her friend Rannie Raymundo’s show. But she and her friends were denied entry because they were cross-dressing. A similar incident happened not so long ago – at the same bar, to a different person: Inday Garutay.

“Rules,” Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “are not necessarily sacred, principles are.”
The incident that happened to me and my friends on the night of April 24 is an example of rules violating the principles which motivate humanity to live in equality, to treat each other with respect, and to uphold each other’s dignity.

(continue reading on BB’s Blog www.iambbgandanghari.com)

While Aruba can say that it is their “right” to refuse entry to people and to choose their customers, they do not have the right to discriminate against anyone. They do not have the right to trample on anyone’s dignity just because that person does not conform with their narrow-minded culture and upbringing.  They do not have the right to treat anyone with less respect just because that person is not up to par with their moral standards.  What is Aruba so afraid of that they resort to transphobia? I wonder how people can be so afraid of our beautiful transgender sisters.

I daresay we call for a BOYCOTT of this bar – a bar that thinks that they are so good, they can choose their customers and that they can choose to discriminate!  Stop the hate Aruba because if you continue doing that, I’m pretty sure you will be out of business in no time!

We’re also calling the attention of our dear members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to please do your part in ending the hate, in  putting a stop to all the discrimination against members of the LGBT community.  PASS THE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION BILL!

Out.com’s Popnography Loves the Filipino Gay Single Kiddies Video

March 9th, 2009

I’m sure many of you have already seen the young Filipino gay kiddies do their own version of Beyonce’s Single Ladies.

If you haven’t yet, then I think you’re already way behind!

Out.com’s Popnography recently featured our very own gay kiddies performing Single Ladies! And guess what, they love it!

Upon seeing this video of a group of young Filipino boys tossin’ their hips to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” we’ve decided:

One) While we’d be happy to never see another buffoon with a webcam and a two-sizes-too-small body suit “interrupt” Ms. Knowles’ “masterpiece,” we somehow can’t help but love this,

Go Pinoy Gay Power!

Guys4Men to Merge with PlanetRomeo

March 1st, 2009

Guys4men is one of the biggest and largest(oh boy do we love big and large things) gay dating sites in the Philippines. And I personally think that it has the best interface among all dating sites that I’m a member of (yes, I’m a slut like that).

PlanetRomeo (also known as GayRomeo) is actually one cool site, which I am a member of too.  If you’re not quite familiar with PlanetRomeo, the guys4men notice says it’s quite similar to guys4men in terms of functionality and vision. Also, PlanetRomeo has more members in Europe. So add Asia + Europe (Guys4men + PlanetRomeo), then you have a Eurasian gay dating site! Charot. The two sites are set to merge on March 18, 2009. According to the merger’s press release, Guys4men user profiles will be moved to the PlanetRomeo web application. What this means for existing Guys4men users is that all their profile contents will be moved to PlanetRomeo, but they will not have to do anything. However, there will be a short time between now and the March 18 merge when Guys4men members will not be able to access the site.

In addition, all Guys4men members will be receiving a PLUS membership (PlanetRomeo’s version of the Supporter Status) for 6 months! Guys4men members with existing SitePoints (I have close to 300 – all referrals!) will have them translated into PlanetRomeo Plus membership in a pro rata allocation.

For those who are NOT interested in joining the merger, all they have to do is delete their guys4men profile before March 18.

Those who opt-out of guys4men before then will not be automatically transferred to Planetromeo, and will miss out on the free Plus membership.

More information can be found on their Press Release Page
