Bakla Ako, May Reklamo?

Coming out to one’s family is one thing that most gay men are scared of.  Some of us go to great lengths just to prepare ourselves and possibly, our families.  For some, it can be very easy, while for others, it can be excruciating.

My coming out of the closet to my family was a breeze.  No drama.  I guess I’m just lucky to have an open-minded and dysfunctional family that coming out of the closet didn’t become that much of an issue. But of course, I also had to prepare for it. I failed on my first attempt but was successful on the second – which took more than a year to prepare for.

From the innards of my annals, here’s my coming out story:

December 2006

I took 5 days of Vacation Leave from work. I booked a trip to Davao to spend Christmas with my family. I somehow am already tired of family gatherings and parties, but this year, I wanted to go back home and tell my parents who I really am.

The days before Christmas Eve were extremely long as I was spending time with old friends, catching up on our lives. All those days were extremely longer as I was looking for a window of opportunity to come out to my folks.

Coming out is not easy. And you can never be too prepared.

We haven’t really proven yet if Uma Khouny is indeed gay.  And we’re giving him the benefit of the doubt (Even if I have personally met him in Bed months prior to his PBB stint). I found a video of the gay sex video allegedly having Uma getting in on (or having “it” shoved up his arse) with another man.

PBB2 Housemate Kian Kazemi is really hot. And he just got hotter in my eyes after watching last night’s primetime episode!

Who wouldn’t be turned on by a hot guy giving a body scrub to another equally hot guy like bruce Quebral?

Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate Uma Khouny has long been rumored to be gay. Not that there’s something wrong about being gay. Duh? Like the title of this blog asks, “Bakla Ako, May Reklamo?” [I'm gay, got a problem with that?], If Uma is indeed gay, should we take it against him? I highly doubt it. Our sexual orientation should be something we should be proud of.Of course we need not brandish our homosexuality to the whole world. It’s our choice to be out or in the closet. And yes, if Uma is indeed gay, it is his choice to stay inside the closet. But he says he’s straight so let’s leave it at that. A newbie to the local entertainment industry, chances of him committing career suicide by coming out are high – or so he thinks. This is the part where I namedrop the likes of Rustom Padilla, Hollywood celebs Lance Bass of NSync, TR Knight of Grey’s Anatomy, and Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother (but shot up to fame with Doogie Houser, MD). For most of them, ever since they came out (or were forcibly outed), their careers have shot up.

I think it’s the latest trend in the entertainment industry around the world today – seemingly and questionably straight actors and celebrities have come out of the closet. A hottie walks right by you in the mall. You’re taken aback. His looks definitely will knock you off and make you wish he was gay. You look at him from the corner of your eyes. Then you stop on your tracks to gawk at him. Okay, not gawk, just observe. Then in a split-second he does something you deem gayly suspicious. He notices you looking at him, looks at you. You notice a grin on his face. You think to yourself: “Is he one of us?” The grin on his face turns into a wide smile. He waves at you (or so you wanted to believe) then walks closer to you. You prepare your most decent and catchy pick-up line. He walks closer. Two meters… two steps. You arm yourself with a big friendly smile. You hold your right hand up ready for a handshake. Then he walks pass you and says hi… not to you but to a very pretty waif woman behind you.

Earth swallow me now. You think to yourself. How you wished you were right when you thought that hunk of a beef was gay like you. With cold sweat trickling through your freshly-threaded brows, you run for the exit. This is the first time your gaydar failed you.

Welcome to the All-New Bakla Ako, May Reklamo (BAMR) blog. I deleted http://bakla.myjournal.ph due to some readers who were hell-bent on ruining my life by hurting my family. But I am way over that. So let’s usher in the all-new BAMR!

The old bakla was a mere mirror of my blogs in LiveJournal and Multiply. So this time around, BAMR will be different. You will be seeing content here that you won’t see on my LJ and Multiply. 3. I’m Coming Out: A collection of coming out stories from different gay men in the Philippines. This would require more effort as I will need to collect stories from people who are willing to share a part of their lives to the www. This blog aims to help gay men who are still in the closet but find it very difficult to come out. Something sort of a support blog.

8. Lakbay Bakla: Travel blog of the Bakla
