This is a recap of the second episode of Project Runway Philippines. We will not be dishing out personal commentary on the designers and their garments, the hosts, judges, the easter eggs, the continuity issues, and the production value of the show. (Uhm, we’ll try.)
The show started with a recap of key scenes from the pilot episode. In the pocket interview cum confessional of Aries Lagat, he shared that he felt awful and sad due to Loida Hunter’s elimination. He recounted that in his last interview, he said some bad things about Loida and for wanting her out of the show.
Teresa Herrera appeared on the runway and welcomed the designers. The models were brought out and Teresa announced that the winning model will get a fashion spread in Mega Magazine. The designers were asked to pick their models. Aries Lagat, winner of the previous challenge got first dibs at choosing a model and he traded his model for another one. Teresa then picked the order of selection by drawing out buttons with names of the designers from the velvet bag (first time to be used in the show). Except for one designer (Ivan?) who picked the model abandoned by Aries, all the other designers stuck with their own models. (See Summary table towards end of this entry).

While we’re patiently and excitedly awaiting for the next episode of project Runway Philippines (click here to view UPDATED PROJECT RUNWAY PHILIPPINES SCHEDULE OF AIRING), why don’t we do a quick rundown of words, statements, and lines from the pilot episode, which are quite memorable and may become eventual buzzwords and statements:
Teresa Herrera
- Ingat.
- In fashion, not everyone will make a good fit.
Jojie Lloren
- I will be your mentor, and also your tormentor.
- You know, I just can’t imagine that on a human figure.
- So it’s really a poncho.
- It’s like green pancakes.
Rajo Laurel
- I’d say, put it back on!
- The black and the orange actually reminds me a bit of Halloween.
- Nakakatakot!
Bo Parcon
- There’s one designer here, Ivan, nung nakita ko siya, personality itself it’s not fashionable.
- Fashion is my passion… This is me. They’re going to love me or hate me, so wala akong pakialam (I don’t care).

Since this is a franchise of a very famous and international reality TV series, we cannot help but compare the show to the original Project Runway series. I am a fan of the US series and have watched all the seasons (1 to 4 and currently watching 5) of Project Runway (US) hosted by Heidi Klum and Mentored by Tim Gunn. I have also watched the first seasons of both Project Catwalk (UK)  hosted by Elizabeth hurley and Mentored by Ben de Lisi  and Project Runway Canada, hosted by Iman and mentored by Brian Bailey.
Please bear in mind though that this will not be a review, but more of a recap of the whole first episode of Project Runway Philippines. This blog is not in any way affiliated with the producers of the show, the contestants, or the airing networks (ETC and SBN21).
Let’s begin the show!
The show opened with a typical Project Runway OBB where the designers, host Teresa Herrera and mentor Jojie Lloren talk about the show and themselves. The designers then started arriving at Amorsolo Mansions, the official residences of the contestants.

After the designers have settled in their official residences, they received the Project Runway welcome letter which asked them to leave all their belongings and head to their welcome celebration. The designers then headed to the Liwasang Bonifacio (close to the Philippine Post Office and Intramuros) where Teresa and Jojie welcomed them. In similar fashion to other Project Runway shows, Project Runway Philippines welcomed the designers to the show with celebratory drinks. As if showing the world an identity for Project Runway Philippines, the drinks were… drumroll please… BUKO JUICE! While all the other seasons and shows I’ve seen had champagne, PR Philippines had Buko Juice! Toast, the tropical way! There’s nothing wrong with fresh coconut juice (straight from the shell). It can actually reflect the tropical climate of the country as well as the freshness and uniqueness of our designs. See? May relate!
