Project Runway Philippines Finale Tonight!

It’s the episode we’ve all been waiting for!

See the final collections of Aries Lagat, Veejay Floresca, and Philipp Tampus on the runway of the Philippine Fashion Week Spring Summer 2009! This is it!

I have seen the live runway shows (but still don’t know who the winner is) and I can say that all of you are in for some big surprises!

Who will win the following: P 500,000.00  (about US$ 11,000.00) from Beverly Hills 6750; a fashion editorial in Mega Magazine; a designer showcase by Mannequin Inc.; Sewing Machines from Brother International? Who will become the first winner of Project Runway Philippines and get tagged as the Philippines’ Next Big Fashion Designer?

Bakla Goes to the Project Runway Philippines Finale

Last week, before I got sick, was probably one of the best weeks of my life!  I got invites to the Project Runway Philippines Final Runway Show at the SMX Convention Center as part of Philippine Fashion Week 2008.

I’m such a big fan of Project Runway (US, Canada and Philippines) that any close encounter with the Runway kind is heaven for me.

The instructions on the invite said that we were not allowed to bring in cameras nor take photos during the collection shows of the three finalists, but I still brought my camera with me (for photo opps outside!). During the show, a lot of people, including the usherettes, brought out their cameras and took some photos.  I didn’t bother taking snaps since I didn’t want any lawsuit coming my way.

So who won? We don’t know yet.  We will all find out when the two-part finale will be aired on ETC on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12. The collections of Veejay Floresca, Philipp Tampus, and Aries Lagat were all so beautiful that I had a hard time deciding which one I loved best.  I cannot show you pictures of the collections (because I don’t have them, yet), but this I can say, YOU REALLY HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR EACH COLLECTION!

So congratulations to the Philipp, Aries and Veejay!  You guys rock!

Masculadoll: Discreet Muscled Men Essays

You see them in the gym pumping those heavy iron bars.  You see them at the malls, making you drool and fantasize about licking their bemuscled biceps and chest. They look so hot and highly unattainable because they are straight. But wait!  Are they really?

Louie Cano, author of queer books “Baklese: Pinoy Pop Queer Dictionary” and “Brusko Pink”, has come out with yet another book: “Masculadoll: Mga Sanaysay ng Buhay Bading na di Buking”. Masculadoll is a collection of hilarious and insightful essays in Filipino on gay Filipino life. The title refers to muscular gays who are into pumping iron in gyms, a category to which the author belongs by virtue of his self-description: “Mukha siyang brusko, pero mas bakla pa siya kay Madonna.”

With titles like “Diva medida, siyete pulgada,” “Majess,” “Mga multong bakla sa tukador ni mudra,” and “’Nyetang Ex,” this collection of essays sure does promise a lot of laughs!

“Masculadoll” is available at all National Book Stores, PowerBooks, and other major book stores at P195 per copy.
