Rustom Padilla is now Bebe Gandanghari

January 21st, 2009

I know this is kind of late, but we just wanted to share with you (for those who haven’t heard of the news yet… I mean, where have you been hiding?) the new Rustom Padilla: Bebe Gandanghari or BEBE for short (Bebe also means Be all you want to Be!”). (watch the Startalk interview here)

We can only surmise that ever since he came out on the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition, he has gone through so many things in his life – and we were all witnesses to some of them. One of them was when he surprised everyone at the Urian Awards last year when he entered the stage (to present an award) dressed in women’s clothes.

Recently, he came out on national television and announced that Rustom Padilla is now “dead” and he is now called Bebe Gandanghari. We knew this time was gonna come after he announced a few months ago that he did not need permission from anyone to wear women’s clothes. Also, he said in an interview in October of 2008 that the reason why he was dressed in women’s clothes was that he was doing a character study to prepare for his one-(wo)man show at the Music Museum this February.

So do you think Bebe Gandang Hari will stay for long or is this just a publicity stunt for his show? I don’t know. One thing I know is that he’s brave enough to face the consequences of his actions. Ganda mo ‘teh!

Rustom, who won the Best Actor award last year, surprised many people as he went onstage dressed as Binibining Gandang Hari – a character he will be playing in a one-man show at the Music Museum in February.

In an interview with TV show Startalk, Rustom explained that he was dressed as a woman as a part of his preparations for his upcoming show.  He adds that he doesn’t need permission from anyone for him to be able to wear women’s clothes.

Rustom adds, in an interview with Chika Minute, that he finds it very interesting and very challenging to play this role.  He even had to study ballet!  When asked if there’s a difference between the character he is playing and the real-life Rustom, he quipped: » Read more: Rustom Padilla: I Don’t Need to Ask Permission
